The following requirements must be met for replication using Zerto:

Virtualization Requirements

The server(s) to be replicated must be running within a VM (i.e. physical servers must be migrated to virtual before replication can be configuration).

The replication software also requires vCenter, which is included with paid versions of VMware (i.e. not the free ESXi hypervisor). If you do not already have a VMware license, we recommend the VMware vSphere Essentials kit, which you can purchase directly from VMware or any authorized reseller for around $667 with 3 years of software updates and support.

Replication Management Software Requirements

The replication management software needs to be installed on a Windows server that meets the following minimum requirements:

  • OS: Windows 2008 R2 SP1 or higher
  • CPU: 2 vCPU
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Storage: 6GB free space

LAN Network Requirements

The replication software will require 1 free, static IP address per VMware host.

If vCenter hasn't been configured before, it will also require 1 free, static IP address.

WAN Network Requirements

The minimum bandwidth required for replication is an upload speed of 5 Mbit.

The replication network requires static, public IP address(es) at the source location for building site-to-site VPNs to the private cloud environment.
